All packed and ready to go we have our final breakfast in Bar Harbor. Banana pancake with strawberries, blueberries and sausage if requested, followed by muffins and a donut cupcake (what an earth is this?). First by-way comes very soon after leaving Mount Desert Island behind, the Schoodic Peninsula Scenic Route. From the start of the route we can see back across the water from whence we came.
We stop at Fraser's Point and look back towards Winter Harbour in Frenchman's Bay.
Very colourful.
.
What a lovely bright yellow band across the tail.
Plus an Eider Duck that was tossing something around in the water, it would get away and then the duck would catch it again - think it was a crab.
There's a Blue Heron there somewhere.
At the end of the Schoodic Peninsula is the only mainland part of Acadia National Park. There were allegedly porpoises just offshore, but all we saw were humanoids.
Now it's on to the Bold Coast Scenic Drive. Plenty of interesting looking churches and houses along this stretch.
Could we knock our house down and build something like this in it's place we wonder.
As we turn onto one of the smaller roads we spot this.... Wild Blueberry Land! A blueberry theme park.
We are passing through what they call the blueberry barrens. In Autumn these areas turn red when the leaves change colour.
This house looked quite dilapidated but it's matching garages looked almost new. Once again, love the shapes on the house.
We arrive at our B&B in Lubec and decide we should visit the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, about four miles away. This is also a State Park with various trails.
Cormorants on the rocks viewed from the lighthouse.
On the return journey, as usual we don't manage to pass an interesting looking piece of wetland without stopping for a quick look.
We were rewarded with some good wetland bird views. American Golden Plover.
Arriving back in Lubec we discuss dinner arrangements. We are told the are three options for eating out. One opens at five and closes at eight, another closes at seven and so we don't wait to find out what time the other one closes but decide that we had better eat before it gets too late. Stroll to the waterfront to an Irish sounding pub with views over the water, food was good. Waitress tells us there are seals out the front so we sit and watch for a while.
That's Campobello Island across the water - in Canada. Roosevelt had a home there, where we are hoping to visit tomorrow.
One of the ten seals we saw.Back to the B&B and Eric admires the view, but is glad there are mosquito nets on the windows to protect us from the mosquitos. There's some cloud cover coming in too.
But it was a very tranquil sunset.
