Weather yesterday
Weather this morning -
So back to the airport for a flight out to Calgary where we understand the weather is now good.
Last night we had been hoping to eat out overlooking the lake or the river, but the only place you can do this in Niagara 'on-the-Lake' is at the local golf club. Our host told us the view from the terrace there was the best one in town. It may well have been be we didn't get to see it as the Terrace hadn't been open all day as there was a tournament going on. Never mind - lots of good restaurants in the downtown area and the non-vegetarian had a lusted after posh beef burger.
Dropped the rental car off after some negotiating various slipways, wrong turns etc. and ending up at the wrong terminal. Luckily a free monorail transported us to the correct place.
Through to the departures lounge via security; this time is was the lady who was stopped for a random check with a 'sniffer' thing that looked like a black dental mirror - "put your hand out' dabs sniffer thing across both hands 3 times; and "now around your pantie line" dabs across front of trousers -oh my golly gosh can I look that dubious they think I have underwear that might go bang! Passed that test anyway.
Next security line - the baggage check - Confiscate 3 small cartons of Tropicana juice - they were 130ml. Empty pockets into tray - three Werther's Originals (they're very popular over here and our host had a jar of them), two imperial mints and an English Breakfast Tea tea bag.
Calgary greets us with bright sunshine and NO SNOW - shame, we'd been looking forward to it.
Picked up the new rental car, a 'compact' Ford Focus, and straight to the hotel for a shower and relax. An interesting en-suite bathroom, those of a nervous disposition should look away now!
The toilet bowl was wierd enough but the seat was also heated to 3 different temperature settings
In case your wondering and you're missing it, here's todays breakfast report. Breakfast - what can we say - lots of fresh fruit, bread, jam, cheeses and a main hot course of half a Chelsea bun done in the style of French toast, sprinkled with coconut, with a tiny maple syrup waffle and poached pear.
A table full of doctors this morning, a nephrologist from Calgary and wife, who was of Irish descent and liked her English Breakfast Tea. Plus a young couple, one in 'Residency', the other a year behind this but had completed her degree in Dublin, both doing general medicine, and attending a cardiology conference.
Coincidentally, The lady from Calgary's daughter also studied medicine at Dublin and was doing her elective in the same department as the young couple. So there was a lot if medical talk over breakfast - but still nobody had heard of a black mouth berry. Talking about 'it's a small world' we forgot to mention that when we were in Gananoque, we were hailed across the street by people we had shared breakfast with 5 days and 600 miles earlier in Quebec. We could hear people calling but were hardly expecting it to be anyone calling out to us.
Passing lots of signs for vineyards in the area, it's a big thing around here. Saw a sign with winery names on and one was called 'Organised Crime Winery' - wondered if this was a double-bluff and it was indeed run by the mafia? However, Judy from Calgary was very disparaging of Niagara wines, saying that they are mostly varying flavours of vinegar. Luckily nobody from local winery present at breakfast table to hear this.
