Additions to the entry "Calgary to Lake Lousie" as we had a few camera related problems. no surprises as there is so much to photograph, organising them is a bit of a nightmare. We stopped in Canmore to pick up groceries and cash and found some wildlife in the street trees. Purchased a Parks Pass to make sure they'd let us in.
A Cedar Waxwing
An as yet unidentified bird that we thought at first was a Grey Jay but then changed our mind.
Eric poses in front of some distant relatives at start of Bow Valley Parkway
Some photos from our Johnstone Canyon waterfalls walk.
Glacial melt water looks very cold - amazingly clear.
Eric still practising taking selfie!
Correct habitat for Dipper but no birds.
Dippers? Eric keeping his eyes peeled for those elusive American Dippers. He had to try and stop himself from being distracted by the hordes of dogs on the trail, out for their Sunday constitutional.
Waterfalls making lovely rainbows in the sunshine.
What, not another picture of a waterfall - afraid so!
To make a change from waterfalls -this rock formation is called Castle Heights. Which Castle does it remind you of?
At Lake Louise, the Victoria Glacier empties into the lake. It has a very greeny colour because this glacier is still active. Consequently it grinds the rock into 'flour' - like baking soda, which then flows down into the lake and remains suspended in the water.
Lake Louise was named in honour of Queen Victoria's daughter, and the glacier after the lady herself. It was quite hard here to take a picture without having lots of people in it. Eric was too shy to come out.
Saw lots of these in the car park.
A Clark's Nutcraker - with a vicious looking beak.
Sign at bottom of road the Moraine Lake said 'Limited Parking', and we heard a woman say they had closed the barrier earlier in the day as the beauty spot was full. Sounds a bit like our home town on a Bank Holiday?? So hoping that we would be able to reach our accommodation, which of course we did.
Our first sight of Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks, before booking in for dinner and going to bed as some clouds started to roll across the mountain tops.
